Full Review

The 2014 Audi RS 7 is a new addition to the expanding RS line. Whether you look at this Sportback as a four-door hatchback or five-door coupe, there is no denying that this car offers world-class luxury and amazing performance. The RS 7 is the perfect car for a performance-oriented individual that also appreciates unique styling and luxurious amenities. Getting into one of these cars is not cheap, thanks to the six-figure price tag, but if you do it, there is no doubt that it will be worth every nickel.

The exterior design of the Audi RS 7 is sleek and unique, and will turn heads everywhere. The front end is equipped with a wide-mouthed black mesh honeycomb grille. The large lower air intakes, a lower splitter and diffuser, distinctive bumper, LED automatic headlights and LED running daytime lights all contribute to the sporty high-end look. The flowing lines take eyes from the front to the rear of the car where the fastback body style is accentuated. Highlights at the rear include a power extending rear spoiler and dual-elliptical tail pipes. Notable standard features include 20-inch wheels, full LED exterior lighting and an adaptive air suspension. To upgrade the sportiness of this car, stand-alone features include 21-inch wheels, red-painted brake calipers and a sport exhaust.

The cabin of the Audi RS 7 has the detailing that buyers have come to expect from Audi. With top-notch materials and amazing build quality the interior of the RS 7 is one of the best in its class. The cabin is large and spacious and has sport-oriented RS features. This car is built for four passengers as the rear seats are individual and separated by a center console. Headroom can be tight in the rear due to the sloping roofline, however. The heated eight-way power adjustable leather sport seats in the front of the cabin are comfortable and supportive for long road trips. The interior comes standard with four-zone automatic climate control and ambient LED lighting. If drivers find they spend a lot of time in the car, the Comfort Seating package is a great feature that adds multicontour seats with ventilation and massaging functions. No driver will ever feel like they are spending too much time behind the wheel of the RS 7.

The 2014 Audi RS 7 comes very well-equipped with only a single trim line. Some standout features on this vehicle that really make it unique include the RS details that can be found throughout the interior and exterior of the car. These include aluminum and carbon-fiber trim pieces such as the grille, bumpers, sills, splitter, diffuser and electric adaptive rear spoiler. All of these details set the RS apart from the rest of the line and segment alike. The Multi Media Interface (MMI) is another great feature unique to Audi. This console-mounted knob controls the rearview camera, navigation system, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity and infotainment system via an 8-inch touchscreen. The dash is also uncluttered as all of the functions are consolidated into one system. While the MMI is not better than the BMW or Mercedes’ respective systems, it does have logical menus, crisp graphics and a touchpad to increase functionality.

Under the hood of the RS 7 is a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that generates 560 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission, with manual shifting capability, and all-wheel drive are standard. A locking center differential and a sport rear differential direct power to individual wheels, based on demand, which increases the performance and handling of this car. The RS 7 flies from 0-97 km/h in just 3.4 seconds.

The 2014 Audi RS 7 is a welcome addition to the luxury performance RS line. Its impressive credentials allow it to stand tall amongst the competitors, but added functionality may push it above the rest.

Interiors and Special Features:

The RS 7's interior is typical Audi, as it's handsomely designed and tightly constructed with excellent materials quality throughout, yet the RS 7 comes off a bit more sinister with its black-faced gauges with red needles and RS-specific carbon-fiber inlays set off by the standard aluminum pedals and ambient LED lighting. Audi's familiar Multi Media Interface (MMI) system controls entertainment, communication and navigation functions via a dash-mounted pop-up screen and a control dial surrounded by buttons on the center console. The system boasts logical menus, crisp graphics and a touchpad to increase functionality, though we still prefer BMW's iDrive or Mercedes' COMAND for overall ease of use.
