Negotiate Smarter with the Best Car Buying Tools

The 2014 Lexus ES 350 is the perfect entry level luxury sports car. It offers wonderful luxury and quality at a terrific value. As soon as you step into the vehicle, you’ll fall in love with the beautiful details and decals that come with buying a Lexus. Step aside and make room for the big boys, the 2014 Lexus EW 350 will be sure to leave people staring.

When Lexus redesigned the ES for the 2013 model, they kept the general shape of the car but added in a lot of interesting detail. First and foremost, this was one of the first Lexus models to sport the spindle-styled front grille which now appears on all Lexus models all across the lineup. It also has the HID headlights with the L-shaped LED running lights which give the face of the car an interesting expression.

Coming to the side of the car, it has artfully rendered side mirrors, deep sculpturing along the rocker panels, and a really nice character line that wraps all the way around to the deck lid giving the car a really sleek and stylish look. Once you get to the back, all the details come together and the back of the car is very tidy-looking and sophisticated.

The 2014 Lexus ES 350 features a 3.5-litre 6-cylinder engine that’ll get you 268-horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. The engine revs freely and drives surprisingly well since it’s the corporate Toyota engine that they put in just about anything. The 2014 ES 350 is a fast car and the engine definitely gets the job done, you can feel it when you put your foot on the pedal.

Taking a look at fuel economy, the Lexus ES 350 gets some of the best efficiency ratings in its class, including the Acura TL and Buick Lacrosse. In the city the ES 350 will get you 11.2 L/100km and 7.59 L/100km on the highway. Pretty good for a vehicle of its size.

The trunk space in the 2014 Lexus ES 350 gets you about 15.2 cubic feet of cargo space. A stroller and a suitcase fit easily and getting all your groceries in there without crushing your food isn’t a problem. Leg space in the back row is surprisingly ample and has extremely comfortable seats as well. Coming to the front of the cabin, a big plus for this car is the large buttons and knobs that are used in lieu of a touchscreen display. Rather than distracting the driver and being extremely difficult to control, the entertainment system in the 2014 ES 350 is extremely easy to use and has all the bells and whistles you’re looking for.

All in all, the 2014 Lexus ES 350 is a wonderful luxury sedan that really hits value right on the nail. Look no further than this year’s ES 350 because its sure to have a package that’ll satisfy all your needs.

Power and Performance:

The 2014 Lexus ES 350 accelerates strongly with its 268-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6—essentially the same engine as in the Camry V-6, but with even more noise- and vibration-quelling measures. And it winds through the gears of the six-speed automatic transmission with such a seamless flow of power that on a straight road the speed can creep up on you, more so than in performance models. but because there’s so little engine noise the speed can creep up on you in deceptive ways. Shifts are a little lumpier on gentle takeoffs, but this is one responsive, fine, and very refined powertrain.

Engineers have firmed up the ride and handling of the 2014 ES 350 a tad—just enough to give a slightly more buttoned-down feel but not so much as to mess with this model’s already established priority: comfort. Straight-line tracking is also greatly improved compared to the outgoing version, and the steering is weighted better, with a quicker ratio. The changes together give it a surprisingly athletic, if not nimble, feel.

Interiors and Special Features:

The 2014 Lexus ES 350's cabin is modern and stylish. There's still wood trim on hand, but it's more subtly applied and looks more like the genuine article. The analog clock in the center of the dash is a classy touch that breaks up the otherwise high-tech environment. Of course, the richness of the materials varies depending on whether you opt for leather or stick with the standard NuLuxe vinyl, but either way, build quality is excellent in typical Lexus fashion.

The climate controls are simple to use, but the audio system is a little more complicated due to the sheer number of available media types. When you opt for the Display Audio or Navigation package, you get the Lexus Remote Touch system, which is essentially a mouselike device that controls a cursor on a large centrally located screen. Although interacting with this interface is very similar to using a computer mouse, the ultra-sensitive nature of the controller can make it clumsy and distracting to use while driving. If tech features are important to you, we recommend playing around with Remote Touch before taking an ES 350 home.

Space is ample all around, and 6-footers will be quite content in the comfy front seats. Rear-seat legroom, in particular, is very impressive, though taller occupants will find their heads touching the roof in ES 350s equipped with the optional panoramic sunroof. The trunk offers 15.2 cubic feet of space, which is average for this class. The rear seats do not fold down, however, and only a pass-through is offered.

Safety features:

Every 2014 Lexus ES 350 comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front and rear side airbags, side curtain airbags and front knee airbags. Also included is Lexus Safety Connect with automatic collision notification, stolen vehicle location and an emergency assist button.

Optional equipment includes front and rear parking sensors, a lane-departure warning system and a blind-spot monitoring system that includes rear cross-traffic alert. The optional adaptive cruise control includes the pre-collision system, which primes the seatbelts and brakes when it senses an impending collision.

In Edmunds brake testing, the ES came to a stop from 60 mph in 124 feet, which is average.

In government crash testing, the ES 350 earned a perfect five-star rating for its overall performance, with five stars for total frontal-crash protection and side-crash protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the ES the highest possible rating of "Good" in its moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact and roof strength tests. Its seat/head restraint design also rates "Good" for whiplash protection in rear impacts.
