The Chevrolet Traverse is a great family hauler, the perfect SUV to get you and your family where you need to go. This year’s model received a few updates both cosmetically and on the inside as well. The interior offers comfortable seating and great customizable settings to make the ride as pleasant as possible.

The first thing you’ll notice on the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse is that the front-end has been given a really nice makeover. This includes a new hood, a brand new grille, and these aerodynamic headlights that give the SUV a really nice new look.

The power lift gate on the rear of the 2014 Traverse is really easy to use and makes getting your groceries in and out of the trunk much easier. The Traverse LTZ has a standard back-up camera and back-up sensors which will let you know of any objects that might get in your way while reversing. Chevrolet has also redesigned the Traverse’s entire rear-end, giving it more of an aggressive, sporty look.

The 2014 Chevrolet Traverse comes standard with a 3.6-litre six-cylinder engine under the hood. This engine will give you up to 288-horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque which is average in its class, similar to the performance of the Ford Explorer. The car is available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive.

Fuel efficiency ratings for the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse are a bit subpar, but you must keep in mind that it’s a three-row vehicle that has the capacity to move a large group of people. The front-wheel-drive Traverse will get you 13.84L/100km city driving and 9.5L/100km on the highway. The all-wheel-drive will get you 14.7L/100km city driving and 10.23L/100km on the highway.

Once you get inside the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, you’ll find a wonderful assortment of comfort and convenience features at the tip of your fingers. These include heated seats, air-conditioned seats, power seats for both the driver and passenger, MyLink radio with navigation, dual climate zones, and several other features you can add into the mix. You also have Bluetooth connectivity built right into the steering-wheel, making hands-free communication as easy as pie. The MyLink system integrated into the touchscreen display, you can easily access your music and favorite apps all in one convenient place. The system is intuitive and easy to use. The controls are big and clear, making it simpler to adjust your settings while driving.

The 2014 Chevy Traverse is a very safe SUV and you can feel confident putting up to eight passengers inside. Eight airbags, three-point harness for all passengers, side impact protection, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, and stability tracking to ensure you and your passengers are safe and sound at all time.

All in all, the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse is the perfect SUV to get you and the entire household wherever you need to go. With its 8-passenger capacity and awesome techy features, the 2014 Traverse is sure to have something to suit your needs.

Power and Performance:

The 2014 Chevrolet Travserse performs well enough for family use, but you shouldn't expect much quickness or agility. And while you might think its 288 horsepower to be plenty, it's the Traverse's roughly 5,000-pound curb weight that's the issue.

It's a very heavy vehicle, and it does little from behind the wheel to mask that from the steering wheel. The smooth 3.6-liter direct-injection V-6 has been programmed for more confident passing power and quicker shifts; yet this is still a combination that needs to work hard up highway grades or from a standing start.

Both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations are available, but we've noticed that AWD versions do sap a little more power from the experience; as such, the Traverse feels quick enough for its intended family-hauling purpose. The Traverse will be able to tow up to 5,200 pounds.

Ride and handling have been improved with new rebound springs in the front, which helps with roll control. The Traverse has pretty well-tuned, old-style hydraulic power steering, and the changes made for last year help firm up the Traverse's response to quick handling manuevers, yet keep its ride smooth.

Interiors and Special Features:

The 2014 Chevy Traverse has three rows of seats and can be had in 7- or 8-passenger configuration. Lower trims are built for eight with a bench in the second row, while upper trims can seat seven with a pair of roomy captain's chairs in the second row. Interior comfort varies with trim level. Base LS models make do with cloth seating and manual-adjust front seats, while top-line LTZ models are luxury-like with perforated leather seats that are heated and cooled up front. No matter what trim you choose, the Traverse is big enough for adults to sit in the third row and still have room for groceries.

No matter which trim you choose, the 2014 Traverse offers quite a bit for the money beyond sheer space. Spend the least on an LS version and you'll still drive away with keyless entry, a rear-vision backup camera, AM/FM/CD/satellite audio with a 6.5-inch touch-screen display. LT trims add interior wood treatments, 18-inch wheels, a power driver's seat and leather-wrapped steering wheel, while LTZ versions bring heated/cooled front seats, a heated steering wheel, leather, and Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning. For the all-important cup holders, you get 10 for 7-passenger configurations and a dozen for 8-passenger models.

Options vary across trim levels for the 2014 Traverse, but all models can be had with all-wheel drive for better traction instead of the standard front-wheel drive. Other available features are navigation with traffic data, blind-spot monitoring with a rear cross-traffic alert system (standard on LTZ trim), a power liftgate, 10-speaker Bose audio, a rear-seat DVD system, and a dual-panel sunroof. Chevrolet's MyLink Touch telematics system combines Bluetooth audio streaming, hands-free phone communication, voice recognition, and compatibility with apps such as Pandora. GM's OnStar Directions and Connections service can be extended by subscription after six months of free coverage.

Safety features:

Standard safety features on all 2014 Chevy Traverse models include four-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a rearview camera, front seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags for all three rows. OnStar is also standard and includes automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking, stolen-vehicle assistance and turn-by-turn navigation.

An inboard driver-seat side airbag that helps protect front occupants from colliding into each other in the event of a side impact is optional on the LS trim and standard on all others. Rear parking sensors are standard on all versions, except the base LS. A blind-spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring system is standard on the LTZ, as are forward collision-alert and lane-departure warning systems. The latter two are optional on the 2LT.

In Edmunds brake testing, a fully loaded LTZ with all-wheel drive required just 119 feet to stop from 60 mph, which is better than average for a family-oriented three-row crossover SUV. In government crash tests, the Traverse earned a top five-star rating for overall performance, with five out of five stars given for overall front-impact protection and five stars for overall side-impact protection. The Traverse also fared well in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, in which it got the highest rating of "Good" in moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact and roof-strength tests.
