Used Car (Sales)

First time to go is the last time as well . So disappointed!

The sales can’t speak English and even doesn’t understand a simple question. During this period, there are more guests than cars. Therefore, the sales didn’t really care if you make a purchase or not. “ One car , there are 10 guests waiting for that.” That’s what he said. For me it sounds super rude . Incredible! Even it’s a tough time for buying cars, sales should always keep their courtesy and respect.

Bought a used car at the dealership and by the time I had driven it home, the dash was lit up like a Christmas tree. Within a month, the car had racked up $4000 in repair bills. Just to operate safely.

Some of the initial repairs were covered ($650) but after an email or two, they stopped responding to the additional, more expensive bills. Now I have to deal with lawyers and the provincial used car sales laws to prevent from being ripped off.

I suggest dealing with a more reputable dealership if you are looking for a used car. Save yourself the trouble and buy a car elsewhere. There are many other options.

After a few emails, calls and texts back-n-forth booked an appointment to "see and test ride" an used vehicle and a possible 'closing' the same day. Drove from Toronto-ON, reached early and here are my thoughts:

PROS:
1. Very spacious and well appointed showroom.
2. Nice and courteous front end staff.
3. Good, clean waiting area with free coffee.
4. Nice selection of vehicles available (both new and used).
5. Tim Hortons and other fast food joints within walking distance.

CONS:
1. Even though we had an appointment two days in advance the car was not ready for "viewing".
(a) The multi-point pre-inspection was not done.
(b) The car was not cleaned (even once) since received by Honda.
(c) The inside was, in fact filthy, unfit for entry, especially in these Covid-19 times. Not just dust, there were garbage lying everywhere, including plastic wrappers, foils, food tid-bits, medicine strips, broken scraps of car-parts and anything and everything you can think off. There were also oil and dry smudges in every touch-spot. The state was so abysmal that you can easily assume that the previous owner had never cleaned and vacuumed his/her car in years.
2. Upon pointing out the above the salesman (Mr. Alexandre Blouin) retorted that "he has seen much worse state of cars". I mean, what? Well, Ok; but you're supposed to clean it up for "viewing", don't you?
3. There were dings, scratches, paint chip-offs etc. and Mr. Blouin was unsure whether they'll fix them before sale.
4. The Bluetooth system wasn't working and Mr. Blouin couldn't figure-it out, stated they'll fix it later. Hmm, fair enough, but defeats the purpose of a 'viewing and possible closing', doesn't it?
5. The original Alloy wheels were not available, even though I was confirmed over phone that they will be.
6. We yet took the test-drive, found it fine and wanted to close the deal subject to certain conditions and pricing, BUT:
(a) Mr. Blouin tried to upsale additional stuff, which I declined.
(b) At one point, while discussing I said, "brother, this needs..."; and Mr. Blouin instantly cut-me-off saying, "I am not your BROTHER".
7. ^ This was the point of no return...

CONCLUSION:
Besides Mr. Blouin I also communicated with Mr. Félix Guillemette, their Sales Director. I found him a through gentleman. A bespoke and totally professional person. He was kind, knowledgeable and very accommodating. Too bad we could not go thru the deal, but if we had only dealt with him, we likely would have. Overall, St. Basile Honda is not a bad company, just that a bit of "people training" and a little insight could help.

Just bought my very first VW from them
+ Really liked the car.
+ Everyone I dealt with was friendly, nice and professional.
+ Transaction was easy and clear.
+ Fixed the windshield crack issue by replacing the entire windshield. 🙌🏻👍🏻 Appreciate it.

- After sales support 👎🏻
- Found a $2500.xx issue in car after leaving dealership. This is after they performed full inspection.
- the Warranty sold to me along with the car for an additional $2000 refuses to cover any of this repair cost 🙂🥲
- So I basically I’m paying $4500 extra out of pocket ($2000 + $2500) 🙂🥲

I have just confirmed my first car from them. And I would say I have no regrets. They are really professional, and they truly care about their clients. Specially, David Makuka, he is very, very helpful and will provide with the utmost customer service. I highly recommend going to St Basille Honda for purchasing a new or certified used car. And I personally recommend talking to Mr. David Makuka regarding sales. Also, I received tremendous help from Jacinthe, financial advisor. I really appreciate the entire team.

I called this place for a quote on a vehicle they had. I talked to Felix. Now I have spoken to many dealerships about their vehicles but Felix is the worst person I’ve ever spoken to. He has no knowledge about any vehicles or it’s payments, not to mention he is also disrespectful and arrogant. That’s funny coming from a Honda employee lol. Avoid him as much as you can. After coming to this page I saw the kind of shady people are at this dealership and Felix was just an example of that. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place and that your business elsewhere.

This place doesn't care about you. We went there 4 times in the past 2 months deciding between a van or SUV.

First, the Odyssey was eye opening. They had nothing in stock with a good color...that's fine but when Yanis suggested to get the Touring from last year, the one with their logo, we were super content, but the price he suggested was supposed to be amazing, didn't feel that way... After going to Brossard Honda, we find out that a year old model with " a great price" was only $3 less bi weekly than a new touring... thanks a lot Yanis! -$6 a month.(also side note, the honda.ca price was even lower than what st.Basile honda was offering) So we felt defeated as the van doesn't fit our budget, and they are hard to come by in a good color...

So we decided that perhaps the CRV? cools we went back to St.Basile and we got this guy Julian...he was not as nice as Yanis( who was nice, just not honest...like most I guess). And wouldn't budge on price, at all, even with colors no one wants...says there are 10 people to every 1 CRV interested in buying it...we would have needed to sign papers that day to get a black CRV, which they didn't have in the lot, they would have to trade with another dealership. They can check which dealership has which car in what color, they wont tell you, but make you sign papers to have it delivered to their dealership probably sneak in the shipping cost into your price too...!

So we went to Brossard again. They were super nice, but couldn't get the Black CRV but had a good price, same story, they'll order it. We tried one more to make sure we were getting a good price, Chambly Honda...OMG actual humans with manners oh man! who would have thought it...and guess what...they were the ones who had the Black CRV...

so to wrap up: St Basile Honda doesn't care about you, because they obviously make soooo much money that your tens of thousands of dollars are not good enough for them...

So to Julian and Yanis and anyone else at St Basile Honda, I got my 2020 CRV

Extremely unprofessional, stay away. I scheduled an appointment with Janick Brisson to see a car. 2 hours before the appointment he called me to reschedule it even though we had already agreed to it and I had cancelled a trip outside the city to come for this appointment. Then he told me he'll find someone else to replace him. Calls me again an hour before the appointment and tries to reschedule again even though he had previously confirmed it. I was already on the way and explained I am coming from far. We finally arrived, tried the car and it looks solid. He offers us used winter tires in excellent for $300. We are happy to get them so we put them on the bill. The next day, I ask Janick what year the tires are from, he tells me they are TWELVE years old (2008). He wanted to sell us tires that were older than the car (2010). This is nonsense. I ask him to remove it from the bill. Finally, the car is ready for pickup, Janick schedules an appointment to come get it. We arrive. Surprise surprise, the car is not ready and the dealer hasn't fixed what they promised (apparently the only mechanic who was supposed to fix the car left in an ambulance in the afternoon but Janick nor his manager were aware of it because they have so many calls and sales, they don't know everything that is going on in the dealer). If someone left in an ambulance (of course, that's terrible), I would assume some people at the dealer would have heard about this and would have informed us in advance. Nobody informed us that the car was not ready. So now 4 hours wasted between me and my friend as I needed a lift to pickup the car. On top of it, they didn't remove the tires from the bill and want me to sign the papers. We ask them to fix the things they promised and come back the next day. Jannick's manager Felix, promises to find us other used winter tires that are newer (we never heard from him). I call Jannick to discuss the tires and Jannick offers me new tires that are more expensive than at pneuarabais and tells me that this is the "cost" price that the dealer pays. Finally, we are able to pick up the car. I drive the car for 3 days. Oil starts leaking. Even though the dealer Honda St Basile had JUST changed the oil a few weeks before that (or so they say in the report they provided). I call Jannick to inform him, he tells me that it's my fault that I didn't pay for extra warranty for the car. I then bring the car to my mechanic who shows me that the oil change done by the dealer was done incorrectly and the bolt that prevents the oil from leaking as well as the rubber part (which was cracked) were not changed and were not fully tightened, therefore the leak, since the oil leaked, this costs me $120. Also, the oil doesn't look new at all (it's very dark and looks dirty).

Long story short, STAY AWAY, this dealer doesn't care about its' customers. ZERO accountability.

Dishonest for used vehicles.
Everything started out great in terms of trying out the vehicle and seeing the vehicle. No problems with any of the procedures here.

However, when it came time to negotiate the financing, the story kept on changing.

First - the offer from the sales rep was either 5.99% or 6.99% dependent on financing, etc. My wife and I then showed them the Honda.ca website promotion on our cell phone that says the financing rate is 4.49% for Honda Certified Used vehicles. The sales rep said he wasn't aware of that rate, took a picture. We also asked to pay monthly. The sales rep immediately said they cannot do monthly payments, only weekly or bi-weekly (odd, considering every other Honda dealer had no issues whatsoever with monthly pricing). Regardless, we told him we want the pricing for 48 months and 60 months, with our down payment and the 4.49% offer on Honda Certified used vehicles, which the vehicle we were looking at was, according to the sales rep. The sales rep took that to his boss to come back to us.

About 5 minutes later he returned, and said the offer is for 4.99%, and then showed us the pricing on both. It was not at all what we asked for. First, he did not offer what the website promotion states, which is 4.49%, Honda Certified vehicles, on APR and a term of 24-72 months. The minimum purchase price is $7500 excluding taxes, fees and registration and so on - typical stuff. He offered 4.99%, and asked for $2300 to buy the extended warranty on the vehicle. Quick math told us that the 1% savings between 4.99% and 5.99% is not worth it for the warranty, so we asked to remove the warranty on the vehicle along with another item. He said ok, and went to his boss again.

This time, he came back with 7.99% and said the interest rate is tied to whether we took the warranty, which is unheard of in ALL of our previous engagements with other Honda dealers in our search for a used Honda vehicle.

We immediately walked out of the negotiation, as this was fishy. His boss then came out and asked what happened. We explained the above, and he proceeded to say the industry standard is 7.99%, and no other dealer was offering less. We explained that we just had come from other dealers offering a variety of interest rates, all lower than his 7.99%. He said he losses money on the vehicle if he sells lower, etc (right...maybe then advertise the price of the vehicle to make a profit for yourself. Don't play sales games) and offered 6.99%, and our condition of inspection was to be carried out immediately or he couldn't do it. We said no and left.

He later called my wife and apologized for the bad experience, and suddenly he was able to offer 5.99%. We again said no thank you.

The dishonesty and the games being played at this dealer unquestionably left a bad taste in our mouths and we no longer want anything to do with them or provide them business.

Be honest up front and tell us from the beginning what we are to expect, not play games with the interest rate for financing and cost of the vehicle. Also, maybe the dealerships should be aware of the advertised promotions on the main manufacturer website instead of playing the "I didn't know of this!" card, and suddenly say they can't offer it or add conditions that do not exist to the offer.

Be careful of this place. The offer on Honda.ca reads ****
Terms and conditions of the 4,49% from Honda.ca website:
*Limited time financing offer provided through Honda Financial Services (HFS) to qualified retail customers on approved credit, for a 24 to 72 month term on 2015 – 2019 Honda Certified Pre-Owned models. To qualify, an eligible model must have a total financed amount of at least $7,500. Representative finance example based on a certified used 2018 Civic with an average financed amount of $15,000, with a $0 down payment, financed at 4.49% APR equals $283.00 monthly for 60 months. Cost of borrowing is $1,980 for a total obligation of $16,980. Applicable fees, levies and duties (all of which may vary by region and dealer) are (i) included in BC, AB, SK, MB, ON and QC, and (ii) extra in PEI, NS, NFLD, NB, YK, NV and NWT. Taxes, licence, insurance, registration [including, where applicable, lien registration fee (up to $84.53) and lien registering agent fee (up to $6.50)] and duty on new tires (QC only) are extra. Dealer may sell for less. Dealer trade may be necessary (but may not be available in all cases). Quantity and eligible models will vary by dealer, while supplies last; certain dealers may not have any eligible models. Offer may not be combined with certain other offers.
Offer/rates subject to change/cancellation without notice. Models shown for illustration purposes only. ** The only condition is that you have to buy a car for at least $7500, and APR on a 24-72 month vehicle.

They said they could only have this offer from Honda.ca which to them was 4.99% if I purchased the extended warranty.
If I did not take the warranty, then the finance rate was 7.99% for 48 or 60 months. Then deciding to walk away, it was down to 6.99.. Something is not right. And then a call 90 min later to 5.99% ...Just honour what Honda.ca is offering.

I went here about 2 or 3 weeks ago to see a Mitsubishi RVR. I liked the car. The sales man did a good job selling it. Ive put in deposit to hold the car while they process my financing but unfortunately I did not get accepted. Which is fine.

What is not okay is that when I tried to reach this sales person STEVEN about how I can get my deposit back, he was NOWHERE TO BE REACHED for about 2 weeks! He read all of my messages, left him voice mails and NO REPLY.

So when I finally told him off that he's so unprofessional, that's when he replied. So now Im just waiting for my check through mail.

My lesson through this big company dealer ship is that THEY ARE SO FAST TALKING YOU OUT ABOUT BUYING THEIR CARS, BUT ONCE YOU NEED SOMETHING FROM THEM, THEY ARE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. Not unless if you bombard them with calls or messages.

Thank you.

I went to this dealership to see an Acura TLX 2016 that they had advertised on autoTRADER. To my surprise, they had already sold the vehicle but offered me another. At first glance, the vehicle they offered me was nice and after a test drive i decided to purchase the vehicle if they repaired the few things that I saw. After driving the vehicle for a few weeks I decided to have it inspected by Acura themselves and they brought up a few things that were concerning. They offered me new tires but Acura confirmed that the tires were slightly used. Also the complete brake system needed to be changed. They changed half the front pumper and told me to go to a scrap yard to get the rest changed. As for the financing, I was planning to pay for the vehicle in full as I had already taken a loan to pay it off but their representative Steven said I would have more leeway if I financed it so I did but ended up paying more for the vehicle then intended. Nothing was offered by the financing department and so resulted in more being added on to the bill in the end. Very bad experience

The used cars (other than Honda) come from auction and most of the time in really bad condition even If Honda will say they passed their safety test. I have seen some of them and friendly advice say away from them!!!
I have seen some others comments and horror stories from this shop.
Save money and don’t buy a used car from them.

On September 11, 2019, I reached out to Joey Duguay to discuss a Certified Used Vehicle I found listed on Autotrader.ca. The vehicle was a 2010 Audi TT advertised for $16,989. In my conversation with Joey, I explained that I was calling from Ottawa and not able to come see the vehicle in person so I asked him to tell me the issues with the vehicle (scratches, dents, smoke smell etc). I also asked if there were any mechanical issues with the car and he assured me that the car is clean and nothing wrong with it.
Based on this information, I decided to put a deposit on the vehicle and made arrangement to see the car and if Joey’s information was accurate, bring the vehicle home.
My son and I arrived on September 17th and I purchased the vehicle after a short test drive and walk around. It was at that time that Joey said the car was in an accident and proceeded to show me in the CarFax report even though he didn’t tell me this on our phone call earlier. He assured me that it was minor damage and had all been repaired already.
We drove the car home to Ottawa and parked it in the driveway. The next morning, I noticed oil leaking from the drain plug area of the car. I sent Joey the pictures of the oil leak and he never responded immediately which had me concerned. I continued to drive the car and filled the oil with about 250mL every few days. The car required a safety certificate which was to be performed in Ontario. I chose to take it to my local Canadian Tire. They found the oil leak to be coming from the rear main crankshaft seal and not the drain plug as I expected. They also failed the inspection because the rear rotors were below the stamped minimum thickness as stamped on the rotor. This regulation is the same in every province across Canada so not sure why it passed in Quebec! I paid $712.83 for the brakes to be repaired and have receipts for it.
After leaving the garage, I texted Joey again and explained that the oil leak was indeed coming from the main rear seal. He responded that it wasn’t his problem! I responded with my displeasure and asked him again if he would help with problem. He responded that he and his Manager said it was no longer their problem and that the seal likely started leaking after it left the lot!
I had the seal replaced at an Audi Dealership using OEM parts and factory technicians. The repair for that was $3,585.16.
Weeks later, I noticed the front tires were getting bald which was concerning since the tires were brand new when I purchased the vehicle. Again, I brought the vehicle in to Canadian Tire for new tires and check the alignment. All 4 wheels were out of alignment (camber and toe) which caused the premature wear on the tires. Had the vehicle been traded-in by the previous owner, the alignment issue would have been evident. I suspect St-Basile masked the problem and just replaced the tires without fixing the issue. Combined, new tires and wheel alignment costs were $1700.
I am confident I have discovered all of the issues with the car now. I feel as though this vehicle should have been sold “as-is” rather than “Certified Used” from a reputable Honda dealership. As you can imagine, having to invest more than $6,000 extra just to make the car safe and drivable does not sit well with me. I do enjoy driving the vehicle but my buying experience from St-Basile Honda has been memorable in the most negative way.
I filed a formal complaint with Pier-Antony Proulx, GM but he never replied. Be VERY careful when dealing with Joey and this dealership!

I have been promised by email that the car which I wanted to buy was in a great condition. But after coming all the way from Laval and having checked. The cat needed repair over 3000$. Bad Rack and Pinion, bad AC compressor, all the breaks needs to be replaced, power steering pump was bad, both head light assembly was cracked and needs to replaced. If I add the repair cost on that car I can by a newer car with lower milage. Totally waste of time and big nonsense

I will talk out of my personal experience, I have bought a Honda accord 2015 from them and to be honest the car is really in good condition , their after sale service is just the worse, part of my deal was to get winter wheels with rims and the rims were all rusty, they promised me a paint job and it took them 3 months 10 calls and 2 visits to get the job done!! Also a part of the deal was a remote starter, it was not functional when I tried it and when I told them about it they said their is a cnx problem and it is not our issue, also the car needed an alignment and they said if we fix it you have to pay for it!!

They were too busy to serve me even though I had called to book an appointment. I guess they don't need the business....

The car I went to see last week was sold "ten minutes ago" according to their salesman Maxime. One week later the listing is still active.

What a great experience like I had never before! From the sale with Jonathan, to the transaction, to after purchase service. They treated me with utmost respect! A great team they have. Thank you, it was a great experience. Cheers!!!

Very satisfied with the transaction bargaining process with Simon. He met me more than halfway to complete this deal. Quite frankly I was ready to walk, there were some items that still left me uncomfortable. I voiced them and he actually listened (how's that for a concept). He came back with a better financing deal, warranty coverage and the manager threw in some excellent winter tires and rims. i wanted a reliable solid second car not something that would require a second mortage. Cynthia then handled the handover process and all went smoothly just they way I like it. no surprises. Now the interesting and crucial part begins, after sales service. Stay tuned.

I spoke to someone Benio in used car sales and asked if the price is flexible, he or said not much and when I tried to make an offer with my credit card, he refused to take it and told me to come over and make an offer. When I told him that I am calling from 6 hours drive to which he said " dont waste time as I am busy ".
Why the hell he took the call if he was busy? He kept saying to come over to make an offer. What if I drive all the way for 6 hours and you have sold the car. Does it make sense to you. I am trusting you with all the details about the car and you are showing me this attitude. I worked for Meadowvale Honda for one year and their I learn the expression of customer first.

I bought my wife a 2012 Honda Civic from St Basile Honda last year and have to say I love the after sales service! I wish I could get that kind of service at the Toyota dealer where I service my 4 Runner.

I just got back from picking up the Honda from the service department and my sales rep Patrice spotted me and cam over to make sure I was a happy client and just to let him know if I need anything, that's after sales service.

I would highly recommend St Basil Honda to anyone looking to buy a car from a dealer that values their clients and offers not only great prices but amazing after sales service.
