Used Car (Sales)

Beware of declarations of how much Wheaton Chevrolet has your interests and satisfaction at heart - it is hypocrisy at its worst.

I purchased a 2016 VW e-Golf in the latter half of February. I was pleased as it was almost new (only 250km!), brought in by them from an American auction. I was warned at purchase that American cars only came with one key but it would cost me only $150-200 to get a second one.

Shortly after the purchase I received an email from the General Manager declaring that my satisfaction was his primary concern. Here are a few quotes:
"Please be assured that our interest in your complete satisfaction has only just begun."
"It is our sincere desire that you are completely satisfied with your vehicle and the service you receive from our dealership."
"If you cannot give us a completely satisfied rating for any reason, please call me so we can better serve you as our valued customer."

I discovered that American cars always came with two keys and that a second one would cost $430. I complained to one sales associates and was told my original sales associate would contact me. He never did.

Three weeks after the purchase the driver's side wing mirror glass fell off as I sat in my driveway adjusting it.

I thought it was time to act on the General Manager's invitation to call him if I was not completely satisfied. First I emailed him (on a Sunday) with my list of concerns. By end-of-day Monday he had not replied so I called. When he answered he said he was busy and would call me back. I waited two days and still no call back. I sent another email reminding him that I was waiting for a call back. When there was no response to this email I called again on the Thursday. His secretary said she would put me through to him as I announced my name and purpose. Somehow between her statement and her return to me on the phone he had miraculously become busy and, you guessed it, would call back. Now over a week since my first email I am yet to be called back. So much for a high priority on customer satisfaction!

Recently bought an SUV from Wheaton. Pretty smooth experience all around. No push from the salesman and no headaches with the financing and warranty stuff that can sometimes be a nightmare.

We visited most of the main car dealerships in Victoria while planning the purchase of our last vehicle. I think Dave Wheaton GM had the best service and deserved a recommendation - they spent an amazing amount of time with us to understand our needs, communicate relevant options/costs and ultimately they helped us find a car that we love. Thanks
