Quick Look

Hyundai has decided to make a couple modification to their new 2016 Hyundai Genesis. With this lineup now being able to compete with the ‘Big Dogs’ in this industry, there is a lot of pressure on the brand to make sure it meets expectations drivers are setting.

Full Review

The new 2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan is now becoming a lot more of a big deal ever since have turned the style of it towards a luxurious look. Even though the Sedan and Coupe share the same name of ‘Genesis,’ they are cars that seems to come from two different worlds. The sedan being the car with the luxury look and the Coupe being the car with a sporty look. Here, we will discuss the improvements and key traits of the Sedan.

Taking a look at the Genesis Sedan from the outside, some people might not even be able to tell the car is a Hyundai. Since Hyundai hasn’t really built their brand as a luxury company, it is hard to believe they have come up with such a handsome looking design. The grille of the front view has a large pentagonal shape, as do most luxurious cars on the road. The logo of the vehicle is located above the grille which is odd since most Hyundai vehicles have it located on the grille. However, they may have decided on this because of the fact that they have a whole new logo for the Genesis. With the idea that Hyundai doesn’t have that ‘luxurious brand,’ they have decided to use something else to market the car on the road, which has worked perfectly for them so far. Moving on the headlights, they may seem a bit tacky with dotted LED lights outlining the frame. The dotted design to it makes it seem cheaper than they are probably going for. They seem tacky since they look like lighting decorations you would put up on your house for the holidays. Moving on to the hood, they have gone with a longer build to it which looks nice with the indent designs they made on the hood and the side of the car. The rear view of the car is very simple which adds on to the character of the car. The fact that they have decided not to add anything extra looks to be a great decision as it helps build that luxury look they’re going for.

The interior look of the car is just as good as the exterior. The colours they have available for the interior are either a creamy beige or a dark grey, which seems very comforting. They haven’t gone for any bright and vibrant colours which seems to be a good choice. The high quality leather they have used for their seats and arm rests add on to the comfort the Genesis already provides. On top of the comfort, the space that is available for both legs and heads is incredible. They were able to give a lot of room which is a luxury many cars don’t seem to offer. Taking a look at the centre-console, we see a very simple to use button-controlled infotainment system. The touch screen on top has an antiglare screen which pops up the Genesis logo when the car starts. Hyundai has done a great job taking a shift with the Genesis towards a direction they don’t push for with other lineups they offer.

Under the hood we see Hyundai uses a 3.3-litre V6 engine which will be able to push about 278 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque. The engine will be running on an 8-speed automated transmission. The power Hyundai is saying they will be launching with the new Genesis Sedan, is a lot better than what drivers were expecting, since they already were able to get people to be amazed with the looks of the cars, it was difficult to believe that they would shock people with the engine power.

Evidently, the new 2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan is a great car to drive or own. It is able to meet many points drivers look for in cars and may even be better than your already-high expectations.

Power and Performance:

With a choice between V-6 and V-8 powertrains, and a rear-wheel-drive architecture, the Hyundai Genesis has the essentials to challenge sport-luxury sedans from Germany, England, and America. While it's not quite as sporty as an E-Class, a 5-Series, or a CTS, it's a strong performer, with a subtle and nuanced set of road manners that pay their own dividends.

The Genesis' base engine is a 311-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 with 293 pound-feet of torque. It runs on regular unleaded gas, has direct injection for better gas mileage--and it sings up its rev range responsively with the standard eight-speed automatic. Even the base model has a manual-shift mode and paddle shift controls for a measure of direct gear control.

Interiors and Special Features:

The Hyundai Genesis aims to stand out (and stand apart) at Hyundai dealerships, yet fit right in with luxury benchmarks that cost far more. And you can see that delicate dichotomy of missions in the way the Genesis looks. It's not derivative of anything in particular, but you don’t need to be a car expert to see that Hyundai looked to Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi, among others, for inspiration, and then mashed it up with some of its own language.

Safety features:

Large luxury sedans have become rolling showcases for some of the latest accident-avoidance technology; and the Hyundai Genesis is no exception. It's quite the safety flagship for the Hyundai lineup.

From the federal government's NCAP testing, the all-new Genesis Sedan earns the top five-star rating for frontal, side crash, and rollover categories—and in nearly all subcategories, including the side pole test, which simulates a 20-mph sideways collision with a utility pole or tree. The only exception where the Genesis earned four stars, rather than five, in the government's subcategories was for driver front-seat protection, in the 38.5-mph side barrier test.
