Quick Look

The 2015 Infiniti Q50 is the second iteration of the compact luxury sedan, which was originally conceived as a replacement for the G37. It looks good and offers plenty of tech. But, arguable the most appealing part of it is its 3.7-litre V6 engine that produces 328 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque.

Full Review

The 2015 Infiniti Q50 is a compact luxury sedan that boasts sharp design, a plethora of tech features and a functional hybrid model. Infiniti has initially conceived the Q50 as a replacement for the G37, which means that it brings about that vehicle’s insane power output and responsive handling. It’s definitely a worthy enough foe to the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4.

The 2015 Q50 sports low and wide stance along with a bold, double-arch front grille. You also get LED headlights, fog lights, daytime running lights and rear taillights. Look below and you’ll see crisp 17-inch wheels if, of course, you go for the standard variant of the vehicle. You can, however, upgrade to 19-inch wheels that blend perfectly with the car’s flowing lines and athletic stance. If you purchase the available AroundView monitor for your cabin, you will have cameras in the grille, side mirrors and rear deck to provide a 360-degree view.

Step inside and you’ll find the dual-cowl design of the G37, though the switchgear on the centre stack is much more modern. The new Infiniti InTouch infotainment system is available in the form of two touchscreens that showcase system, connectivity and navigation data. However, the navigation system is optional. The system has its own selection of vehicle-specific apps as well as the option to download and sync personal apps through a smartphone. On top of everything, the InTouch has conventional controls to enable HVAC functions.

In terms of materials, the cabin relies mainly on genuine aluminum, with maple wood as an extra. The seats get standard leatherette upholstery, but you can opt for leather, heated trim and sports seats, if you want.

When it comes to space, there’s even more rear seat legroom, while the trunk offers 18 cubic inches of cargo space. The front seats are as spacious and driver-centres as always.

Under the hood, the 2015 Q50 has a 3.7-litre V6 that produces 328 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The hybrid version – taken directly out of the Infiniti M Hybrid – is a 3.5-litre V6 that provides 296 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque along with a 50-kiloWatt electric motor that adds 67 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. The combined horsepower output is 354. The only transmission available is the seven-speed automatic since the previously available six-speed manual is no longer with us. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is also available. Finally, there’s a new drive mode selector switch that has Sport, Standard, Eco and Snow modes for the gearbox.

Overall, the 2015 Infiniti Q50 is a gorgeous luxury vehicle that, for the most part, succeeds in almost every regard. If you have plenty of cash to spend (this is a luxury car after all), be sure to give this one a try. It’s worth it.

Puissance et performance:

Despite the -50 badging, lurking beneath the new hood is a mildly updated version of the outgoing G37's 3.7-liter V6 that produces 328 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque.

Plucked from the Infiniti M Hybrid is the smaller sedan's first-ever gasoline-electric powertrain. A 3.5-liter V6 rated at 296 horsepower and 255 lb-ft. of torque, while a 50 kW electric motor adds 67 ponies and 199 lb-ft. of torque. Using "electrified" math, the automaker says that net combined output is 354 horsepower.

Caractéristiques spéciales et intérieures:

Inside, the Q50 follows the dual-cowl styling of its predecessor, although the switchgear on the center stack is much more high-tech. In place of most of the conventional buttons found in the G37, there's a new Infiniti InTouch infotainment system that takes the form of two capacitive touchscreens that display system, navigation (when equipped) and connectivity info.

InTouch comes pre-loaded with a selection of vehicle-centric apps, and owners have the option of downloading, updating and synching personal apps through their smartphones. The system also integrates conventional controls for HVAC functions.

Caractéristiques de sécurité:

All Q50 models come standard with dual front, front-side and full-length side curtain airbags in addition to traction and stability control systems.

The Q50 can also be optioned with advanced safety technologies that will warn the driver of impending front or rear collisions and, if necessary, apply the brakes to prevent or mitigate the severity of the crash. A separate system alerts the driver if the Q50 begins to wander into an adjacent lane and can actually apply slight steering inputs to help keep the sedan on track
