Full Review

The Honda Fit is a true example of why an entry-level car doesn’t need to be bland. This car has enough personality in its design, features and drivability to prove that “economic” can also be fun. The 2015 Fit gets some notable upgrades after the one-year hiatus to ride on the success of the original model. First introduced to the North American market in the 2007 model year, this five-door hatchback was a replacement for the Civic hatchback. As it continues to grow in size, this car has gone from a sub-compact to a compact, and gains an even longer wheelbase for the third-generation design. Not only has this car gained size, but it has also gained appeal, and Honda continues to hit the mark with this flexible and fun whip. The larger wheelbase and slightly more aggressive stance add depth to the look. Details such as the sloped windshield that is almost one with the hood and high beltline give the illusion that the car is actually taller than it is. The new Fit looks a lot less like a scaled-down minivan, though it does still have its wedge-like appearance. Notable standard equipment includes 15-inch wheels and automatic headlights, but upgraded models will add larger wheels and a sunroof.

The interior design of the Honda Fit has a nice layout that doesn’t look cheap, but there is definitely an ambitious amount of stuff going on here. The instrument panel is clustered with different shapes and surfaces that detract from the usability of the controls. A unique and highly functional aspect to the Fit is what Honda refers to as the “Magic Seat” arrangement. What this means is that the rear seats can flip not only forward, but backward and upward, allowing four different modes that can fit a variety of cargo. The rear seats are also a comfortable place for tall passengers since there is no sloping roofline to speak of. The front of the cabin is more average in terms of space, but the seats are comfortable and supportive, despite only having basic functions. As far as cargo space goes, folding the rear seats down will earn you 52 cubic feet of space. This rivals some small crossovers.

As far as technology features go, the upper trims come equipped with some pretty sophisticated stuff. The HondaLink infotainment system operates on a seven-inch touchscreen that provides voice control as well as search, audio and social media functions. The touchscreen can operate the available navigation system, and there is also a function for navigation streaming through an iPhone 5.

If the manufacturer features don’t do it for you, there are also dealer-installed accessories that can be added to the Fit to make it more personalized. These accessories include remote start, special machine-finish alloy wheels, a sport grille and various other aesthetic extras.

The powertrain on the Honda Fit is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 130 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the base trims, while a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is optional.

Overall, the 2015 Honda Fit is a great choice for a compact car. Honda has obviously invested time and effort into this vehicle, which has not gone unnoticed.

Interiors and Special Features:

The former Fit's cabin design was lacking in terms of its overall materials quality as well as the look and feel of various knobs and switches. It simply fell short of competitors like the Accent or Fiesta. The 2015 Fit, however, makes a large leap inside, drawing a more modern and updated feel from Honda's Civic and Accord. It's also roomier than ever before. The expansive amount of rear seat space -- there's more rear legroom than in the Accord -- means comfortable seating for two tall adults and/or easy installation of child safety seats.

Safety features:

Every 2015 Honda Fit comes standard with antilock brakes (front disc, rear drum), stability and traction control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags and active head restraints.

Notable is the LaneWatch blind-spot system (EX and EX-L trim), which instantly switches the 7-inch screen's display to a low and wide view of the passenger side blind spot when the right turn signal is engaged.
