Full Review

With the screaming success that German rivals saw from their development of the four-door coupe segment, Audi made its entry into the five-door coupe market with the release of the Audi A7. The A7 was a screaming success, so Audi did what any sport car company would do and pumped up the power. The Audi RS 7 is the halo vehicle in the A7 lineup and for a good reason. The blend of style and power that this car offers is second-to-none, and really stands its ground in the tough segment. The RS 7 was first introduced just last year and therefore requires minimal updates. For 2015, there were exterior and interior revisions that all make for a better looking and functioning vehicle – all changes that any Audi enthusiast would be pleased with. The infotainment system also gets quite the upgrade, which will be pleasing for the techies that feel as though Audi is lagging behind. The Audi RS 7 is a truly powerful car that also happens to look beautiful.

The exterior design of the RS 7 gets a few tweaks to help enhance the sleek and purposeful look. The headlights are now a sleeker LED and the new taillights get horizontal and diagonal bars. The new lights not only look more contemporary, but they also tie the RS 7 visually into other vehicles in the lineup, such as the third-generation TT. The look is sleek, sexy and commanding, distinguishable in its uniqueness – though it doesn’t attempt to do anything over-the-top. Standard exterior features on the RS 7 include 20-inch wheels, full LED exterior lighting, a sunroof and a power hatchback. There are also RS-specific trim pieces that grace the exterior of this vehicle, including carbon-fibre grille, bumpers, sills and adaptive rear spoiler.

Audi has built a reputation for itself as one of the best interior constructors in the industry. The German automaker has a knack for blending luxury, practicality and sportiness into one wholesome package. The RS 7 is no exception to this, sporting one of the most beautiful cabins in the Audi lineup, and arguably the whole segment. The 2015 RS 7’s interior gets a few discreet revisions, including some changes to the gauge cluster, airflow controls for the vents, paddle shifters and the Quattro emblem on the instrument panel, but nothing too noticeable or invasive. The cabin is a very comfortable space for front-seat passengers, with ample headspace and legroom. The standard sport seats and the multicontour comfort seats are both comfortable for long drives and supportive enough for more spirited driving. The dramatically-slopping roofline does jeopardize the rear seat head space, but there is sufficient headroom and the twin rear bucket seats trump the traditional three-seat bench. Cargo capacity is 24.5 cubic feet, with loading being made easy thanks to the hatchback design.

The technology specs on the RS 7 get a big improvement for 2015, with helpful changes being made to the Multi Media Interface (MMI) infotainment system. It’s now faster in its operation and more capable than ever with the upgrade to an LTE-based connectivity and option for an improved night-vision system. The MMI system houses all of the entertainment and information features on the RS 7 in one convenient system displayed on a dash-mounted pop-up screen. The system has been praised for its logical menus and crisp graphics in the past. With the operational upgrades, the RS 7 now has the most up-to-date infotainment system out there.

The RS 7 is powered by a turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine that moves 560 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting capability. This beast of a vehicle can blast from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.

Overall, the 2015 Audi RS 7 is a vehicle that has established a name for itself in this very new and very competitive segment. It competes against some world-class automobiles, but manages to remain a standout amongst the competition.

Power and Performance:

There are no changes to the RS7's powertrain, which is very much okay with us. This hatchbacked monster still features a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that cranks out 560 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 516 lb-ft of torque at 1750 rpm. (It will still deactivate cylinders under light load to increase fuel efficiency. How thoughtful.) Top speed is governed at 190 mph, and the sprint from 0 to 60 mph should take the same 3.4 seconds that we measured from the pre-refresh comparo car.

Interiors and Special Features:

Inside, the RS7 gets a few “discreetly revised” components, including the gauge cluster, the airflow controls for the vents, the paddle shifters, and the Quattro emblem on the instrument panel. Be glad we told you, because you likely wouldn’t notice otherwise. What you will be able to notice is the upgraded infotainment system, which is faster in operation and more capable than ever. It incorporates LTE-based connectivity and an optional improved night-vision system. Oh, and there are a few new colors and wood trim options.
