2013 Acura ILX

The 2013 Acura ILX is a sporty sedan that offers a lot of features.  One drawback is that on the base model, you can’t get a navigational system. It is disappointing that you cannot get the one option that you want.

The navigational system does have a lot of features.  The display is simple and if offers satellite radio as well. There is also Bluetooth streaming audio as well. There is also support for Pandora through an iPhone only connection. There is Bluetooth hands free option for your phone and access to your text messages on the display. The 6 speed, 2.4 liter cars come with a premium package. You get a premium audio system that has six speakers and a backup camera.

Acura is well known for its smaller cars. The Integra was popular with its sporty look and solid build. Over the years it became a favorite in America. Later Acura came out with the RSX coupe, not a great luxury car, perhaps, but good looking, fun to drive, and likeable.

It now seems that Acura has lost its way. The entry-level ILX disappoints in many ways. The Acura ILX is a decent car, but hardly worth the asking price.

The ILX looks good, but it can be quite awkward at times. This model shares many of the Honda Civic's mechanical bits, although it is a unique car and not just a gussied-up Civic.

One of the major weaknesses of the ILX is the interior. The dash layout is one of its major weaknesses. The number of buttons demonstrated how limited the features are. Despite the lack of features, the materials that are used to build the dashboard are excellent, even if the design leaves a lot to be desired.

Another major drawback is that the backseat doesn’t provide a lot of space. The opening to the trunk is small and it only offers 12.3 cubic foot of capacity. The trunk room in the hybrid is only 9.4 cubic feet.

There are three choices of engines for the Acura ILX. There is a 150 horsepower two-liter four-cylinder version. Fuel economy for this Acura ILX is 8.6L/100km in the city and 5.6L/100 km in the country side. The hybrid version comes with the Civic Hybrid's 1.5 liter powertrain reprogrammed to deliver stronger acceleration. Fuel economy for this model is 5 L/100km in the city and 4.8L/100km on the highway.  The other option is a 2.4 liter engine that produces 201 horsepower. Fuel economy for the 2.4 liter is 9.8L/100km in the city and 6.5L/100km on the highway.

You may be wondering how they run. The 2.0 doesn’t offer a lot of power to get up hills. The hybrid model is slow as well. The best option is the 2.4 liter engine which is sharp, aggressive, and quick. However it only comes in manual. The 2.4 engine cannot be purchased with an automatic transmission.

The Acura ILX drives well and offers a quiet ride. Overall it offers a decent ride that you will love.
